What is RDK
RDK (Reference Design Kit) is a standardized set of software tools and additional localization modules designed for the quick deployment of new-generation video services. The platform is open-sourced and RDK users can provide feedback and enhance parts of the code. The community has access to Linux kernel and drives, Busybox, OpenSSL, WPE, OpenGL, GStreamer, UPnP libraries and other components. This enables the software to be continually updated and quickly eliminates any bugs.
RDK is used in various equipment: set-top boxes, modems, network equipment, and IoT devices. The solution provides operators with a single interface for interacting with the SoC (System-on-Chip).
RDK: possibilities for operators
RDK provides operators with the possibility of developing their software solutions, managing smart home data, speeding up product launches, standing out from their competitors, and strengthening the brand.
The platform’s functionality enables apps to be refined, as well as allowing some components of STBs and gateways to be standardized, resulting in a better user experience.
RDK-V’s software components enable operators to quickly implement new innovative services without integrating OEM and SoC supplier solutions.
Ethernet and Wi-Fi connection
The MAG540w3 RDK model is equipped with an integrated Wi-Fi module.
MAG540 RDK
Connects via 100 Mbps Ethernet interface, works only in a wired network.
MAG540w3 RDK
The set-top box can be connected both wired and wirelessly. The Ethernet port provides a data rate of up to 100 Mbps. The Wi-Fi module operates in two bands: the data rate reaches 100 Mbps in 2.4 GHz mode and 550 Mbps in 5 GHz mode1.
Hardware and software capacities
The quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 processor, powered by a new Amlogic S905Y4 chipset, ensures streamlined playback and interface performance. The device comes with two USB ports and connects to the network via the Ethernet 100 Mbit/s cable. The MAG540w3 RDK is equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi module.
This model supports HEVC, 4K2, and Dolby Digital PlusTM technologies. Optionally, the adapter can be integrated with middleware and DRM/CAS. APIs enable its quick implementation for operators who have used earlier MAG models.
API for easy integration
Infomir has ensured that operators and integrators have the tools to improve their projects. With API, our customers can integrate content protection systems and create Linux-based applications for MAG set-top boxes. This allows system integrators to create software for cruise ships, hotels, and holiday camps, while pay-TV operators can develop customer applications for middleware.
The model is easy to integrate into a project
Operators who have used other custom devices based on the RDK platform will find it easy to migrate to the MAG540/540w3 RDK. Adaptation is straightforward and only takes a short time to complete.
Capable of customizing the devices
Infomir provides operators with a customization service. This means that operators can place their logo on set-top boxes and remotes and personalize the software on request. Customization allows you to strengthen your brand and make it more recognizable.
Ergonomic remote control
The MAG540/540w3 RDK come with a contemporary IR remote control with customizable IR systems. If you have other devices with an IR receiver nearby (such as an air conditioner or TV), the remote can be customized so that its operation doesn’t affect them.
The remote control has five programmable buttons. Copy the IR codes of other devices’ buttons to them and control the devices in the room from one remote control. It takes no more than one minute for the remote to learn.
The non-slip ABS plastic body makes the remote convenient to hold in your hand. The device is designed to work for a long time: the service life of each button is 300,000 presses.
Reliability and smooth playback
Due to powerful components, the MAG540/540w3 RDK work fast. Both versions of the device play back content smoothly and without lag: users can enjoy their viewing experience without worrying about restarting or setup.
